Rösob, Ülb and "Fortuna Mutante"
Hauntings can be baffling at times. When this one first came to me, whispering his unexplainable secrets, he was Rösob. Then, just when I thought I was beginning to understand who he was, he would turn completely on his head and speak in an altogether different voice, claiming to be Ülb.
Once I was able to effectively capture this beast (or beasts?) by carving the woodblock, it was revealed that these are the same timeless spirits that the ancients referred to as "Fortuna Mutante" or "Luck Changers". In a long-lost tradition of unknown origin (pre-cataclysmic Santorini?), it's said that when someone is visited by these creatures AND is able to capture their likeness, then that image of the Fortuna Mutante can be placed inside a house in order to ensure that the portentious whisperings from beyond continue. As a talisman mounted over the entryway, the image can be rotated in any direction in order to change one's luck before leaving the house.
(by the way, if you've read this far I'll let you in on how difficult these Mutante can be to handle... Rösob... he's a Rotten Ol' SOB. And Ülb? ...an Ugly Little Bastard.)
